Geometric Landmarks: A Fusion of Architecture and Tribal Art

Ben Grib's Award-Winning Travel Poster Series Reimagines Iconic Buildings

Ben Grib's Geometric Landmarks, a series of travel posters, presents a unique fusion of architecture and African tribal patterns. This innovative design project, which earned a Golden A' Design Award, reimagines iconic buildings around the world through a vibrant prism of geometric shapes and colours.

The inspiration behind Geometric Landmarks is a desire to bridge Africa and the world through design. Grib, drawing from the inherent geometric precision in architecture, infuses his illustrations with elements from Zulu, Xhosa, and Sotho tribal patterns. The result is a series of posters that not only celebrate the architectural marvels of cities like London, Paris, and New York but also reflect the vibrant colours and high contrasts of African art.

What sets Geometric Landmarks apart is its unique approach to architectural representation. Grib reconstructs iconic buildings using basic geometric shapes, injecting new life into familiar structures. Each building is presented in three unique colour versions, creating a dynamic visual experience that goes beyond the grey facades of the actual structures. The posters, printed on 250g paper, are designed to serve as interior artworks for travel enthusiasts.

The design process involved extensive research into architectural plans and profile photos. All illustrations were created using Adobe Illustrator, with colours chosen based on either photos of the original building or a core colour palette. Despite the challenge of creating patterned surfaces that wouldn't distract from the overall building design, Grib successfully achieved a harmonious balance in his illustrations.

Geometric Landmarks was designed between October and November 2015 and is sold exclusively on Greatlittleprints.com as part of their travel poster series. The project not only showcases Grib's innovative design approach but also his ability to transform flat surfaces into vibrant, patterned artworks. The series has been lauded for its trendsetting creations that advance art, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence.

In conclusion, Ben Grib's Geometric Landmarks represents a successful fusion of architecture and tribal art, offering a fresh perspective on iconic buildings around the world. The series serves as a testament to the transformative power of design, breathing new life into familiar structures and creating a vibrant visual experience for viewers. As Grib continues to push the boundaries of design, one can only anticipate what innovative projects he will undertake next.
